He was predeceased by: his father Robert Clyde Mayes; and his wife Tanra. He is survived by: his mother Maxine Epperson Mayes; and his brothers, Bob Mayes (Sheila), Bill Mayes (Maeva), Ben Mayes (Sue) and Jim Mayes (Linda). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.
