It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ruth Matthews of Van Buren, Arkansas, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Loal Henry Harwell, Sr. and Myrtle Lillie Howell; her siblings, Loal Henry Jr., Tom Edward Harwell, Patsy Modean Smith and Doris Virginia Hickey; and her siblings' children, Joseph Wiggins and Lovona Kay Smith Jordan.
She is survived by: her children, Jack Wayne Matthews (Linda) of Mountainburg and Roseanna Walcher (Ray) of Milford, Ohio; her sisters, Louellen Imogene Inge of Mulberry, Lillie Myrtle Smith of Alma and Dorli Lorupant Wiggins of Uniontown; her grandchildren, Aaron Wayne Matthews (Jennifer) of Centerton, AR, Kyle Wesley Matthews (Rachel) of Charleston, AR, Shannon Rene'Horvath of Milford and Amanda Rae Walcher of Columbus, Ohio; and her great grandchildren, Sperry Douglas Matthews, Declan Rhys Matthews, Jack Wesley Matthews, Wyatt Zachary Matthews and Brooks Aaron Matthews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Gill Cemetery. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Crawford County, a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, life member of Fort Smith Heritage Foundation, Fort Smith Trolley Museum and Fort Smith Historical Society.
