He was predeceased by: his parents, Herscher M. Sumpter and Cleopatra Childress Sumpter; his spouse Vanzetta Sumpter; his son Vaughn Ross; and his siblings, Doris Thomas, Linda Sumpter, Mary Sumpter, Johnnie Sumpter, Sr., Isaiah Sumpter and Chauncey Sumpter.
He is survived by: his significant other Veola Bell of Helena, AR; his children, Jackie Tate of Detroit, MI and Kevin Anderson of St. Louis, MO; his siblings, Joyce Sumpter of Marvell, AR and Alvin Sumpter of Marianna, AR; his siblings-in-law, Curleen Sumpter of Poplar Grove, AR, Sharon Sumpter of St. Louis, MO and Roscoe Thomas of Trenton, AR; and his aunt Geraldine Sumpter of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by six grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brown's Home For Funerals (417 Walnut St, Helena, AR 72342). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Luke M. B. Church. A burial will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at the Mt. Moriah M. B. Church.
