He was predeceased by: his parents, Hoyl Mathis and Thelma Mathis (Morrow); his siblings, Evelyn Spalinger, William and Billy Mathis; and his daughter-in-law Dawn Mathis.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Mathis; his children, Kevin, Kent Mathis and Kristal Methvin (Mathis); his stepchildren, Jackie Slusher, James and Jeff Nelson; his grandchildren, Caleb Mathis, Mary Westlake (Mathis), Anna Mathis, Jacob Methvin, Makayla Methvin, Kennedy Methvin, Jeffrey, Britney Nelson, Ashton Couch, Wes and Kabria Dorn; and his siblings, Leon Mathis and Joyce Mathis. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
