He was predeceased by: his parents, John Leonard Gates, Sr. and Allie Lee Frisby Gates; and his son Delwin Dewayne "Bubba" Gates. He is survived by: his wife Pearl Phillips Gates; his daughter Deta Lewis (Shan) of White Hall; his siblings, John Gates, Jr. of Parchman, Marshall Gates (Rhonda) of Pine Bluff, Christopher Wade Gates (Wendy Brady) of Pine Bluff and Mary Ann Small (Bruce) of Pine Bluff; his grandchildren, Bethany Cecil, Connor Jackson, Christopher Gates, Izak Cecil and Pearl Squires; and his great grandchildren, Royalty Cecil and Timothy Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Flat Bayou Cemetery (1672-1704 County Farm Rd, Altheimer, AR 72004). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
