He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Bates and Hallie Bates Herb (McCarty); and his siblings, Richard, Esther, Glenn, Ralph and Jim Bates.
He is survived by: his wife Carla; and his sons, Herbie Bates (Brandie), Brian Addington (Tina) and William Bates (Andrinna). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
