He was predeceased by : his parents, Walter Schafer and Lillian Schafer (Hengesbach); and his brother Larry Schafer. He is survived by : his wife LaVonne Schafer (Belfry); his children, Aaron Schafer (Bethany) of Goodyear, AZ, Laura Roguske (Brian) of Parker, CO and Michael Schafer of Chandler, AZ.; his sister-in-law Karen Schafer; his niece Kelly Chopp (Kevin); his nephew Troy Schafer; his grandchildren, Malorie, Sydney, Isabel, Annaliese, Madelyn, Drew and Bennett; his mother-in-law Carolyn Belfry; and his friends, Dale Patterson, Joe O'Leary and Bill DeGroot. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, cousins.

In liew of flowers, a donation would be appreciated for the Society of St. Vincent dePaul, Clinton County Right to Life or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association.

“Doug’s passing is so sad. As a child we played together regularly. Doug is a religious man with inspirational posts and always making nice comments on my posts of family and grandkids. From Facebook pictures he has a beautiful, wonderful family. All say Doug was a “good guy." All we can ask is to remembered as a "good guy" Doug, I was hoping to see you, will wait for heaven.
