Charles W. Trautner Obituary

Charles William Trautner, born June 19, 1937, passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 88.

Charles was the son of a preacher in North Dakota, a foundation that shaped his early life and instilled enduring values of faith, integrity, and community—principles that remained with him throughout his life.

He lived an exciting and full life, including many memorable years in Chicago, where he built a successful career in banking. Charles thrived in the energy of the city and took pride in his professional accomplishments, forming lasting relationships along the way.

He was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters, a role that contributed to his resilience, warmth, and ability to connect easily with people.

Above all else, Charles was a devoted father. He took great pride in his children, and his love for them was constant and enduring. His presence in their lives, the memories they shared, and the lessons he imparted will remain with them always.

Charles was also known for his great sense of humor. With a quick wit and an easy laugh, he had a way of lightening even the most serious moments and bringing joy to those around him.

Charles William Trautner is survived by Sally Trautner; his children, Kathryn Trautner Melbye and David Trautner; his grandson, Dorian Melbye; his siblings, Kay Litin, Paul Trautner, and Jim Trautner; and a large and loving lineage of nieces and nephews.
