She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Duncan and Irene Helen McDonald (Laird); her former husband John Ben "JB" Kaufman; and her husband Frederick George Mertens. She is survived by: her daughter Deanna Carol Schuster (Rico) of Mesa, AZ; her grandchildren, Darren Scott Nolan (Laurie) of New Bloomfield, MO and Melinda Liagoure of Mesa, AZ; and her great grandchildren, Amber Nicole Nolan, Dagan Orion Hoer of Mexico, MO, Ethan Michael Liagoure of Mesa, AZ, Mia Sommia Liagoure of Mesa, AZ and Kira Grace Ikegami of Mesa, AZ. She is also survived by many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
