Donna Joseph Obituary
Donna Joseph (Frazier) transitioned on Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 29, 1950, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Donna was a proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School. After completing her studies, she earned her cosmetology license and went on to serve a devoted clientele while working at Goldblatt's department store.
Donna dedicated her life to serving others. She followed her passion for community support through her work at Twin Cities and later as Chief of Staff in the Benton Harbor Mayor's Office. Her journey eventually led her to Chicago, Illinois, where she studied at Roosevelt University and served as Chief of Staff for world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali and his manager, Jabir Muhammad. She continued her professional career at Loyola University's School of Law, contributing her talents to the offices of Career Resources and Visual Arts.
Among all her accomplishments, Donna's most cherished roles were those of mother and grandmother. She was deeply involved in her children's activities—PTA, Band Boosters, class trips, and drumline competitions across the country. As "Mimi," she embraced grandmotherhood with boundless love: she was the first to hold her beloved Phillip, relocated to care for him during his first seven months, crafted each of his birthday invitations, taught him to cook everything from simple meals to complex dishes, and offered unwavering love and support throughout his life.
Donna's memory will be treasured by her husband, Charles F. Joseph (Arizona); her daughter, Ipalla G. Cooke, and grandson Phillip A. (Pennsylvania); her son, Gordon B. Joseph (Arizona); and her sisters, Evelyn Powell (Virginia) and Brenda Barnes (Michigan). She is also survived by a host of friends, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred H. Frazier Sr.; her mother, Nona I. Blanton; and her brother, Clinton E. Frazier.
