He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Ray and Ethel Faye Hershey; his siblings, Robert Hershey, Russell Hershey, Charlotte Daniels, Etta Riviere, Pat Earhart and Diane Towery; and his granddaughter Ashley Hershey.
He is survived by: his sister Debra Hocking of Mount Carmel; his children, James L. Hershey Jr. of Pekin, Andrea Avalos of Mesa and Ismael Avalos of Mesa; his grandchildren, Haley, Abigail, Carmen and Ismael Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Tyler, Olivia and Lola.
