Jay Alan Gorham Obituary

The family of Jay Alan Gorham regretfully announces his passing on October 15, 2025 at the age of 89.

Jay was born on January 12, 1936 in Waterford, New York. He was a professor of mathematics and chairman of the mathematics department at Hudson Valley Community College for many years. Jay's passion was performing magic and collecting magic tricks and memorabilia. He loved performing, especially for children. He is a former President of the Society of American Magicians. He also was active in local politics in Wynantskill, New York, was a member of the Rotary Club of NY and volunteered at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Arizona.

Jay was blessed with a loving family, and his last days were spent with his wife, Patricia Gorham, his sons Matthew and Gary, his daughter in law Kristina, and his grandchildren Matthew Jr., Jeremy, Mariah, Jasmine, Sean and Chloe. He also is survived by his daughter in law Celina and his granddaughters Julia and Jenna. We take comfort in knowing that Jay now is with his two sons, Jay Jr. and Timothy. Jay took great joy in spending time with his family, including his great-grandson Lincoln and his grandchildren's partners, Liz, Riley and JJ.

The family would like to thank Jay's friends, especially those who were with him every day during his final struggles, supporting and loving him: Clark and Elaine Wirthlin, Gary Kanowsky and John Papamatheakis. Jay loved his friends, and they brought light into his life in the darkest of times.

A private celebration of Jay's life will be held at Pat and Jay's home with close friends and family.
