Douglas Patten wrote a sympathy message

“Our hearts and prayers go out to you, Glenda, and to your family. I knew Larry when I was growing up in Santa Monica. For much of that time Larry and I were in the same ward. (I am Gerald's brother.) After our missions, we were in the young single adult group together. I know this, that Larry affected several for good, and lifted and blessed many lives. The Lord is looking out for him, and for you!”

“Dear Glenda and family, I grew up with the Nichols family in Santa Monica. Dennis was my age, so Larry was the just-older brother. Larry could tumble with the roughest of the lot, though my recollection of Larry Nichols is he was an honest broker and wanted to do right. Even as an older brother, Larry was approachable. We played Church athletics together. Larry played short field on the ward softball team. His tall presence in the short field position was daunting to opponents who could find no holes through him to the outfield. Our team were champs and participated in the all-Church tournament in Salt Lake City in 1967. When we were leaders in the Explorer post as mid-teens, Larry gave me a ride home on several occasions on his small motorcycle. That was my unique fun as a kid with your husband, father, and friend. I am heartbroken by the news of his early passing. It is made more difficult because of his virtue. Said again: Larry loved doing right by others, and by God. May God bless you with peace and purpose. Sincerely, gerald patten :'-( centreville, va. [email protected]
