He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Monroe and Catherine Monroe (Gallagher); and his siblings, Beverly Luchsinger, Carol Monroe, Bobby and Jim Monroe.

He is survived by: his sons, Trevor, Michael and Jeremy; and his siblings, Rosemary Adolphson and Jerry Monroe. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to the Friends of the Montana Constitution, Freshwaters Illustrated, or the Great Falls Public Library Foundation in his name.
