It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Romelia "Mellie" Manuela (Padilla) Bribiescas (Mesa, Arizona), born in Superior, Arizona, who passed away on March 27, 2022, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. Mellie was born to Bernardo and Escolastica Padilla in Superior, Arizona on November 21, 1940. She is the youngest sister of Bernardo “Cheffie” Padilla. After graduating from Superior High School in 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Henry “Kiki” Bribiescas on April 27, 1960. Together they had 4 children: Henry, William, Steven, and Sonia. Mellie worked as a teacher’s aide in the Special Education Department at Roosevelt School. She served 30 years working for the Town of Superior as a dispatcher and the town clerk.

Mellie loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved watching all of her kids and grandkids play high school and college sports. She was a big sports fan and really enjoyed watching men’s and women’s basketball and softball. She loved watching her Spanish soap operas (novelas) every chance she could. Her passions included crocheting, knitting, ordering from Estsy and Amazon, coloring on the Re-Color app on her iPad, planning reunions for the “Class of 1958”and spoiling her pet parrot, Darcy.

Mellie is survived by her (husband) of 61 years Henry “Kiki” Bribiescas of Mesa; (son) Henry A. Bribiescas of Mesa (Valerie); (son) William E. Bribiescas of Apache Jct.; (daughter) Sonia Bribiescas of Mesa, (grandchildren) William E. Bribiescas, Jr., Lauren Allen (Matt), Ashley Brown (Freddie), Monique Bribiescas, Joshua Bribiescas, Shauna Bribiescas, and Christian Bribiescas, (great-grandchildren) Jada Bribiescas, Logan Allen, Carter Allen, Braylon Bribiescas, Julian Bribiescas, Kye Brown, Shyanna Brown, Cameron Allen, Aaliyah Bribiescas, Olivia Allen, Aria Brown, Sebastian Bribiescas, Ariyah Brown, and Freddie Brown IV. Mellie is preceded in death by her (parents) Bernardo and Escolastica Padilla, (brother) Benardo “Cheffie” Padilla, and (son) Steven P. Bribiescas.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 14th 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Magma Club, 34 Kumpke Ct (34 Kumpke Court, Superior, Arizona 85173). Interment of ashes will immediately follow the service at Fairview Cemetery. Reception will follow the interment at Los Hermanos Ballroom (upstairs). The entire celebration will be in Superior, AZ.
