He is survived by: his wife Annie Thomas; his stepchildren, Barbara "Babs", Gabriel, Marrtell and April; and his siblings, Kelley Shoemaker, Charles Shoemaker, Glen Shoemaker and Nancy Hegg. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
