He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Harriet Leonard Turpin and William Turpin; his brother Leonard; his wife Polly Turpin; his children, Julie Turpin Dillon (Dave Darby) and Scott Turpin (Hannah); his sisters, Ann Turpin Thayer and Becky (Mike Pollitz); and his grandchildren, Ryan Dillon, Jake Dillon, Reed Dillon and Charlotte Turpin.

He was most proud of his work with the Naval War College Foundation, the Joe Foss Institute, and many other military organizations.
