It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elsie G. Moore Smith (Scottsdale, Arizona), born in Sussex, Virginia, who passed away on February 21, 2022, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband A. Wade Smith; her parents, Phillip Moore and Louise Moore; and her brothers, Phillip Jr., Thomas, Rufus and James Moore.

She is survived by: her sons, Arthur Wade Smith, Aaron Webster Smith and Allen Weldon Smith; her siblings, Mary Neal, Joan Moore Parker, Barbara Moore-Scruggs and Harold Moore; and her siblings-in-law, Joyce Moore and George Scruggs, Jr.. She is also survived by four nieces; three nephews; five great nieces; two great nephews; two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew, as well as a host of cousins and devoted friends.

She continued her studies as a Ford Foundation Scholar at the University of Chicago, where she earned her Master of Arts degree and PhD in Human Development.
