Hector Ortiz Obituary
Hector Ortiz, a luminary in the world of baseball and a cherished member of the Texas Rangers organization, passed away on Wednesday after a courageous battle with cancer. At the age of 54, Hector leaves behind a legacy enriched not only by his professional achievements but also by the indelible impact he made on those around him, both on and off the field.
Born into the vibrant baseball culture of Puerto Rico, Hector's love for the game was evident from an early age. His journey in baseball, spanning over two decades, saw him transition from a skilled catcher to a respected coach and mentor. Hector's professional career was marked by dedication and excellence, holding significant roles within the Texas Rangers' major and minor league systems. As first-base coach, bullpen coach, catching coordinator, and more, he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of countless players. Hector's influence extended beyond the Rangers, touching lives in the Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico Roberto Clemente, where he played and managed with distinction.
Hector was more than a baseball coach; he was a beacon of wisdom and encouragement, a teacher of life whose positive spirit and unwavering support left an indelible mark on the Rangers' organization and the baseball community at large.
Away from the diamond, Hector was a man of diverse passions and simple pleasures. Whether building LEGO sets with his son Logan, watching boxing matches with Christian, indulging in chocolate chip cookies with Rian, or preparing a meal for his family, Hector embraced every moment with infectious joy and enthusiasm.
An avid biker and culinary enthusiast, he found solace in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was a peaceful bike ride or preparing a meal for his family. His love for laughter was infectious, often found scrolling through social media for a good chuckle.
Hector's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will forever be cherished. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, their children, and a community of friends, players, and colleagues whose lives he touched with his generosity, spirit, and love.
We invite friends, family, and all those touched by Hector's life to join us in honoring his memory at the Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery in Scottsdale, AZ, for a viewing and visitation on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with a Rosary at 6:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at SS Simon and Jude Cathedral in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with a reception to follow at Smith Hall.

In honor of Hector, attendees are requested to wear any shade of purple, his favorite color, as a tribute to his vibrant spirit. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream link of the Mass will be provided, allowing us to join in spirit and celebration of Hector's remarkable life.
