He was predeceased by : his parents, Clara Lorine Cole and Cecil Eugene Van Lieu. He is survived by : his wife Sharon Van Lieu; his sister Linda Van Lieu Kirkland; his uncle Wayne Van Lieu; his children, James Van Lieu (Charlotte), Debbie Fackrell (Wayne) and Keith Van Lieu; and his grandchildren, Sandi, Jennifer, Ryan, Gayle, Kristen, Brian and Brandi. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
