He is survived by: his wife Kathy Williams; his stepson David Lee Williams; his children, Cheryl Shaffer (Greg) of Glendive, Daryl Schmidt (Michele) of Snohomish, Darwin Schmidt (Carla) of Bozeman and D'Wayne Schmidt (Nita) of Billings, Montana.; his brother Larry Schmidt; his sisters-in-law, Donna Schmidt of Long Prairie, Joan Elpel of Billings and Jan Elpel of Bozeman, Montana.; his granddaughter Amanda Gillispie (Steve); his great grandchildren, Erica of Glendive and Brenna of Glendive; his grandchildren, Paul Shaffer (Jessica) of Pleasanton and Sara Chavez (Nick); his great grandchildren, Maverick of Billings and Charlotte of Billings; his grandchildren, Jennifer Kolling of Belgrade, Brandon Schmidt (Megan) of Bozeman and Stephanie White (Kurt); and his great grandchildren, Kacy and Adalyn of Townsend.
