He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Joseph Jr. and Carmen Nichols (Shane); his daughter-in-law Rina; his grandchildren, Francisco Valdez, Mateo Valdez (Monique), Justin Nichols, Bailey Nichols, Andres Valdez and Easton Nichols; his great grandchild Miliana; his brothers, Juan Valdez (Beverly) and Jorge Valdez; and his pet Coco.

A rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the St. Augustine Cathedral (192 S Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701). A Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Holy Hope Cemetery (3555 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705).
