He was predeceased by: his parents, Armando Islas and Esperanza Duarte; and his brother Alejandro Varela. He is survived by: his children, Juan Jesus Islas (Bianca) and Selina Islas (Carlos); his grandchildren, Esperanza Islas, Jesus Armando Islas, Carlos Varela Jr. and Mia Varela; and his siblings, Rudy Duarte, Armando Islas, Sergio Islas, Anita Hill and Lucy Leyvas (Robert). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
