Richard's life was characterized by the boundless love and unwavering support he offered to his extensive family. He was a pillar of strength and a source of warmth for everyone around him.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Tina Schmitt Burney who shared his life's journey. His legacy continues through his cherished sons, Reggie Earl Schmitt, Robert Edward Schmitt Burney, and Riley Eric Burney. Richard also leaves behind three additional children from a previous marriage: Rosie Burney, Richard Burney Junior, and Mattiella Burney.

Richard was a beloved son, a guiding father not only to his own children but also in a broader sense to his extended family, and a fun-loving uncle to many. He is survived by his four dear sisters: Deborah Burney, Annicia Burney, Sanie Burney, and Oleavia King[Title], with whom he shared deep bonds of affection and countless memories.
