He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Nelson and Ruby Nelson (Cook); his stepmother Ruth Nelson (Warner); his sisters, Charlotte "Patsy" Wheeler (Tom) and Patricia "Patty Lee" Dockstader (Dick); his daughter Sandra Galindo (Steve); and his grandson Steven E. Galindo.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Jane Nelson (Leavens); his daughter Peggy Gilbert (Richard); his granddaughters, Heather Kahn (Hewitt), Page (Hewitt), Adams (Tobias) and Robin Hewitt; and his friend Erin Snyder.
