David James Schlenker Obituary
Lt. David J. Schlenker, Jr passed from this life on to join his wife Barbara Louise on Friday October 25, 2019. He is fondly remembered by his children Lee, Jim, and Sherman, his brother Stephen, and his numerous grandchildren. David was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida by his father David J. Slenker and his mother Jeannette N. Harris before attending the University of Florida and serving with honors in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following the Armistice Agreement, David moved to Denver, Colorado and married Carole Jeanette Butkin from Oklahoma City, Okla. He first worked for the Martin Missile Co. and then ran his own independent local newspaper before joining Government service in California. An outstanding athlete, he won all-Navy swimming medals in several disciplines, as well as numerous racquetball championships throughout his career. He loved God, his country, classical cars, country singing, and serving in his local church in San Clemente. Dave always had a good joke to tell, his sense of humor and love of ice cream will be part of his legacy. A memorial service will be held at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home Obituary, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA on Friday, November 22, 2018 at 1 pm.
