Larry Wayne Schneider Sr. Obituary
Larry Wayne Schneider Sr. was born in Lima, Ohio on January 25, 1950, to Herbert Vincent Schneider and Helen Louise Hanes. He was an inquisitive, sometimes mischievous child growing up. It is rumored that he used to wake up early to sneak downstairs to eat bowls of pure sugar. He was the youngest child of the family until his sister, Nancy, was born 11 years later.
He was a good student and was the starting quarterback for the Lima Senior High Spartans team. Following his high school graduation in 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army. While stationed in South Korea, he met the love of his life, Jai Youn. He brought her back with him to the United States. They were married in October of 1972, where his brother, David, had the privilege of walking her down the aisle. He and Jai Youn moved to California and, over time, had and raised two children; his daughter, Janel and his son, Larry Jr. He was a very involved and present father. He enthusiastically coached Larry Jr. in some of his many athletic endeavors, like football and track. He was a rock for Janel being there for her through the ups and downs of her life. She knew that she could depend on him for anything at any time. If she needed him for any reason, he would be there for her at the drop of a hat.
In addition to being a devoted husband to Jai Youn, a loving father to Janel and Larry Jr., he was also a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren, Jacob, Logan and Brynn whom he bragged about frequently. He was their biggest fan and strongest supporter, never missing a concert, recital or game. It goes without saying that all of his grandchildren adored their Grandpa (Papa to Brynn). Larry was also a very loving brother to his older brother, David, and his sisters, Diana and Nancy. He was especially protective of his little sister, Nancy, even occasionally letting her tag along on his dates. Additionally, he had a son-in-law, Tim, who he viewed as an excellent addition to the family. Most notably though, he was a devoted husband to Jai Youn. They celebrated their 50th anniversary by taking a cruise to renew their vows. They held onto each other tightly for 52 years, until his untimely death on January 11th, just two weeks shy of his 75th birthday.
Larry touched the hearts of all of those were fortunate enough to have had the privilege of knowing him. He was the first person to offer assistance to anyone in need, without needing to be asked. Larry had such a big and caring heart. Combine those traits with his dry sense of humor, kindness and down to earth personality, and it's easy to see why he made such a positive impact on those who were fortunate to cross paths with him.
He spent the majority of his career working for Qantas as the Director of freight logistics. Following his time at Qantas, he went on to be the court program supervisor for the collections unit for the Ventura County Court system. He retired from that position late last year and was looking forward to spending more time with his family.
Larry will be greatly missed and loved, but will live on in our hearts forever.
