He was predeceased by : his parents, James Purkey and Alice King (Purkey); his wife Dorothy Kunkel; and his siblings, Polly Crockford (Purkey), Wilma Jane Reece (Purkey) and Charles Purkey.

He is survived by : his children, Melinda Purkey (George) and David Purkey; his grandchildren, Matthew George, Rebecca Dolcini (George), Nicole Gocke (Purkey) and Christopher Purkey; and his great grandchildren, Abbigayle George, Olivia Dolcini, Charlotte Dolcini, Emma Gocke, Easton Gocke, Colt Gocke, Presley Purkey and Caden Purkey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters Catholic Church or to the St. Peters Cemetery Fund.
