He was predeceased by: his parents, Waldo Burkhart and Ruth Burkhart (Hauser); his siblings, Nancy Newman and Bill Burkhart; his parents-in-law, Burton and Lois Johnson; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Johnson and Craig Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Burkhart; his daughter Susan Wise (Troy); his grandson Nolan Sawyer; his stepgrandson Trevor Wise; and his sisters-in-law, Joan Burkhart, Julie Novotny (Steve), Anne Johnson and Juliette Primeau. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 17 grandnieces and grandnephews.
