He was predeceased by: his daughter Joyce Hirota. He is survived by: his wife Emi Takeuchi; his daughter Joan Ito (Jon); his grandchildren, Jolyene Carl (Kevin) and Robert Hirota; his son-in-law Dave Hirota; and his siblings, Toni Tomita, Itsu Raymond and Kenji Takeuchi (Setsuko). He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
