She was predeceased by : her parents, Bruce Tarkington and Irma Williams; and her brother Bruce Tarkington. She is survived by : her nephew Keith Tarkington (Annabel); her niece Renee Rosa (Fernando); and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Jacob, Nicholas Rosa, Rebecca Rosa and Alani Tarkington.
She was a graduate of the Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing (1958), and later earned her Master's degree from UCSF (1968).
