She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“I have many fond memories of Mary Ellen playing hockey with the San Diego Field Hockey Association and with the ‘Green Cards’. She played on the forward line as a winger and would often outrun and outplay her opponents. When Mary Ellen took off down the wing ... there was no stopping her! She scored some great goals in the final seconds of games and was aways a fierce competitor. She would give her best in every game and play hard to the final whistle. She will be sorely missed. Sara Lewis”
