Benjamin James Michels Obituary

We are saddened by the passing of Benjamin James Michels, 87, of Fairfield. Ben was born in Beach, ND and had to walk five miles in the snow to school and back. After graduating he enlisted in the Army and after basic training was stationed in Japan where he met Yoko Ohigashi whom he married in 1955. Ben fought in the Vietnam War and retired in 1979 when he started working at the Post Office until retiring in 1995 and moving to Fairfield. Ben was fluent in Japanese and Spanish and had a BA in Liberal Arts from San Jose State University. His hobbies included history, dowsing, coin collecting, trivia, crossword puzzles and languages. Ben has many grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.
