He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Plath and Edith Plath; his sister LaDonna Benson; and his wife Joy Plath. He is survived by: his siblings, Art Plath, Elaine Bruss and Lalah Bahn; his children, Grant Plath (Brenda), Greg Plath (Heidi) and Janee'Plath Gaffney (Michael); and his grandchildren, Katherine Gaffney Miller (Doug), Megan Gaffney, Chad Plath, Ben Plath, Preston Plath, Eli Plath, ClaraGrace Plath and Andrew Plath.
