“Denis wrote a profile of me for The NY Times long long ago. Shortly after that he rented a summer place in Newport and I was fortunate to spend a lengthy days and night with him. We laughed, listened to music (Danny O’Keefe was his obsession then), and talked about writing, life, and the value of good work until the wee hours.
