He was predeceased by : his wife Carole Pauline Laakso; his parents, Bertha Marie Laakso (Kokko) and William Kaarl Laakso; and his son Christopher Matthew Laakso. He is survived by : his children, David Laakso (Linda), Timothy Laakso, Jeffrey Laakso (Kristen), Lisa Ceklosky (Robert), Kristen Ziencina (Chris), Pamela Karam (Richard) and Kimberly Pengilly (Chris); and his siblings, William Laakso (Patricia) and Darla Dysert (Thomas). He is also survived by twenty one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
