Raymond Lewis Obituary

Raymond Lewis Sr. affectionately known to many as "Paw-Paw" peacefully passed away on September 29, 2023, at the age of 85 in North Hollywood, CA. He was born on January 4, 1938, in Carville, Louisiana to Emanuel and France Alexander Lewis.

Raymond was a hard worker, known for his quiet demeanor. He cherished family time and was a father figure in the neighborhood. He was a humble, selfless, and dedicated individual who was loyal and kindhearted. He had a loving nature and he always willing to help other . He was hospitable and made sure everyone around him was well fed. Raymond had a particular fondness for instant coffee, bananas, and gumbo. You could always see him wearing a baseball cap and carrying a mysterious "black bag" that nobody dared to touch.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Clevurn Lewis, whom he married in 1973. He is also survived by his sons Willie Stevenson-Lewis (Stacy), Jermaine Lewis, Sr. (Malik), and Timothy Lewis Sr.., 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of niece, nephews, family & friends as well as his siblings Annie Bell McGee and Reginald Fields. Notably, Raymond shared a remarkable bond with his great aunt-in-law, Ella Foster Reed, adding an extra layer of warmth and love to his expansive family connections.
Raymond was preceded in death by his son Raymond Lewis Jr., his parents Emanuel and Frances Alexander Lewis, and his brother Emanuel "E.J." Lewis, Jr. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Raymond attended Southern University before enlisting in the Air Force in 1964. He served in New York City until 1968, proudly dedicating himself to his military service. In 1968, he moved to California, where he traveled around before settling in Los Angeles to enjoy life. After his honorable discharge, Raymond embarked on a remarkable career with the
USPS, serving the community for 46 years and accumulating a total of 50 years of government service. Raymond found solace and inspiration at New Generation Non Denominational Community Church, where he worshiped under the leadership or Pastor Larry Nolan. His faith was an important aspect of his life.

In his free time, Raymond indulged in various hobbies, including western and martial arts movies, lottery scratchers, and watching horse race at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. He was also an avid fan of public transportation. Raymond Lewis Sr. will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever be cherished, and his kindness and generosity will continue to inspire others.
