“I just heard of Janis's passing. I had the pleasure of working as her technician in 1960-61 at the Kaiser Foundation Research Institute in Richmond. She was an outstanding biochemist and a pioneer in the field of protein chemistry, working on the Fraenkel-Conrat team in the Virus Laboratory at UC Berkeley on Tobacco Mosaic Virus. I learned a lot from her about how to do research. She was very patient with me and gave me a lot of excellent advice. I enjoyed her warm friendship and humor.”
