Carrol Nuckols Obituary
December 5, 1931 - May 24, 2018 Carrol Boyd Nuckols, resident of Oceanside, CA, passed away at age of 86, Thursday, May 24, 2018, at home, following 2 years 8 months treatment for cancer, diagnosed in early 2015. Carrol was born December 5, 1931, in Grundy, Buchanan County, Virginia, where she completed her early education in a small country schoolhouse through 8th grade.
At 14, she moved to her aunt's home, helped with her aunt's fruit stand, and worked in Grundy's hotel restaurant, where she met her husband, Stuart Nuckols, an itinerant telephone systems installer. They were married (October 17, 1949) for over 65 years, until Stuart's death in July, 2015. Early residences included Blacksburg and Newport News, VA.
They moved to Pasadena, California with their two children, in 1955. They moved to Fullerton, California in 1961, and later lived in the City of Orange, before returning to Fullerton. Carrol and Stuart enjoyed a second home in Desert Hot Springs. Carrol attended the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, in Fullerton, where she was a member for about 30 years.
She often took classes to acquire new skills, including cooking, oil painting, typing, cake decorating, and upholstering. After attending the Fashion Academy in Costa Mesa, she became a color expert and consultant. In 1990 she graduated from Fullerton City College with an A.A. in Fashion Design. She developed a passion for genealogy and was a member of the Nuckolls Worldwide Kindred Society, and contributed copies of wills, photos, birth and death dates, etc., for the "First Virginia Nuckolls and Kindred, Book II." Stuart retired in 1992, and they settled into a new house in Fredericksburg, VA, (where they could be closer to their grandsons). 2001, they returned to California, and settled in Oceanside in 2003, where one grandson continued to live with them.
After moving to Oceanside she attended King of Kings Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the Piecemakers quilting group, whose quilts are sent to others all over the world. Carrol commented that helping others made her happy, and was generously caring for her family. Carrol is predeceased by her parents, Glenn Boyd and Euna (Deel) Boyd, a brother, Harrel Estis Boyd, and two sisters, Iva Lee Terry and Betty (1Foster) 2Stiltner.
She is survived by her two children, Joan Carolyn (and first husband Mark Williams) Kwasiborski, of Oceanside, CA and Wayne (and wife Kayo) Nuckols, of Carlsbad, CA, her two grandsons, Shepard Williams of Oceanside, CA and Evan (and wife Maureen) Williams of Gaithersburg, MD, two great-grandsons, Leo and Seamus Williams (Gaithersburg, MD), 8 Boyd brothers (all of Virginia, with exceptions noted): Leon (and wife Pamela), Richard (and wife Betty), Wayne (and wife Joyce), Elmer (and wife Doreen) of Alaska, Roger (and wife Cherie) of Florida, Darrell (and first wife Judy), Philip "Pete" (and wife Teresa) and Jeffery and 4 sisters: Edgar (and husband Roger) Childress of Virginia, Bernice (and husband Charles) Baker of Alaska, Vickie (and husband Robert "Pete") Cooley of Florida, and Vanessa (and husband Gary) Ratliff of Virginia, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is planned at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2993 McDonald Street, Oceanside, CA 92054. (Date and time to be determined) Officiating: Paster Tim Eichler Interment will be at the Old Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Ave., Oceanside, CA 92057.
