Clayton Mais Obituary
Clayton Lane Mais, 23 of Oceanside, California (formerly of Wellington, MO) passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021.
He was born Thursday, August 21, 1997 in Warrensburg, Missouri, and was the son of Todd Burkhart and Sara (Mais) White.
Clayton graduated from Wellington-Napoleon High School - class of 2016. From a young age he dreamed of joining the service, so it came as no surprise when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 26, 2019. Clayton's love of guns and artillery led him to serve as an Infantry Machine Gunner for the Unit 2/1, Fox Company.
He married the love of his life, Shelby (Beagle) Mais on November 30, 2019. They shared 8 years together celebrating many accomplishments like home ownership, careers, and vacations. They were excited to start their military life together and see such amazing and beautiful places. Clayton loved the vast unknown of the ocean, always wanting to be near or in the water. Living so close to the ocean was a dream come true for him.
Surviving are his wife, Shelby Mais; his parents, Sara (Charles) White, Todd Burkhart; three sisters, Courtlynn Storm, Savannah Fritz, and Keylee Burkhart; one step-sister, Merissa White (Jake Tevis); two grandmothers, Theresa (Bobby) Shurmantine, Betty Burkhart; one great-grandmother, Betty Hackler; his wife's parents, Sara (James) Garcia; brother-in-laws, Justin and Logan Garcia; his wife's grandmother, Beverly Guthrie.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Danny Lee Mais; one grandmother, Vicki Mais; one great-grandmother, Mary Ann Mais; and one cousin, Chelsea Gulford.
He will Lie in Repose Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St. Higginsville, MO 64037. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM and a graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2:30 PM in the Dover Cemetery, Dover, MO.
