She is survived by: her husband Jon Hurley; her daughters, Freya and Cinnia; her father Bernard Hansen of Happy Valley, OR; her stepfather Roy Edward Toschi of Madera, CA; and her siblings, James Toschi of San Francisco, CA, Michelle Hansen of Portland, OR and Carol Zelenke of Ashburn, VA..
During the initial outbreak of COVID-19, she led one of the teams that developed the genomic sequences for the vaccine.
