“I was able to tell Steve that I'm going to miss him, and he seemed to acknowledge that our friendship had been a good one. We met in the Fall of 1963 when we entered Mrs. Carpenter's 4th grade class at Antelope Elementary. After many years of separation, we reconnected in 2010 and visited often for the next 12 years. Unusually bright, optimistic, and soulful, Steve's memory will remain with me. I remember singing "Moon River" with him at my parents' home on the Mekkolumne as the moon rose.”
