Marilyn Jane Gillmeister, beloved wife of Dirk Gillmeister and cherished mother of Victoria Jane Wells, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025. Born in 1946 to Laurence, Sr and Jane Dunton, in Queens, NY, she lived on Long Island, NY until the 1960's when she moved with her family to Santa Clara, CA. She met her first husband, Gary Preston Wells, in 1966 and had her only child, Victoria in 1969. She attended San Jose City College and earned a degree in nursing which was not only her profession but also her passion for many years. After the dissolution of her first marriage, she and Victoria moved to Santa Monica where she began her career as a registered nurse. She met her soulmate and future husband in Glendale, CA during August of 1988. Dirk and Marilyn were married at Lake Tahoe on July 22, 1989. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Placerville, CA to start a new life in rural America. They retired early in 1995 to enjoy the fruits of life. They then moved to Revel Folsom, CA, a retirement community in 2022.
Marilyn, along with her husband, was an avid world traveler and visited over 65 countries by land, air and sea. Along with her passion for nursing and helping people, she was also an avid reader and cat lover.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 11am at Green Valley Mortuary & Cemetery, 3004 Alexandrite Drive, Rescue, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Animal Outreach of the Motherlode, 6101 Enterprise Dr. Suite B & C Diamond Springs, CA 95619, in Marilyn's name.
