Elizabeth Janet (Peckham) Whitehead Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elizabeth Janet (Peckham) Whitehead (Roseville, California), who passed away on November 19, 2019, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. Elizabeth, known as Betty to her friends and family, was pre-deceased by her parents, Lloyd and Rita (Blanchette) Peckham of Lynn, Massachusetts, her sister, Florence Ann (Peckham) Morse of Lynn, Massachusetts and her husband of 53 years, John Taylor Whitehead. Betty is survived by her daughters, Marybeth (Whitehead) Bergkvist of Austin, TX and Elizabeth (Whitehead) Bunker of Auburn, CA, her nieces, Cynthia (Morse) Burke, of Lynn, MA and Nancy (Morse) Sousa of Pelham, NH, and her four beloved grandchildren, Taylor Bunker of San Diego, CA, Erik Bergkvist of Burlington, VT, Michaela Bunker of Truckee, CA and Sarah Bergkvist of Gainsville, FL. She leaves many treasured friends in Roseville, California, Florida, Massachusetts and Barrington, Rhode Island, where she always hoped to return. Betty earned her Masters in Education from Simmons College in Boston, MA, and taught English for several years before working at Bell Telephone. After raising her two daughters, Betty returned to work for People's Bank (which later became Bank of Newport) of Barrington, RI, and kept in contact with many of her treasured customers and colleagues. Betty enjoyed playing bridge with her group of dear friends, and golfed whenever she could find the time.
We are delayed in announcing Elizabeth's passing due to the uncertainty in timing for bringing her back home to New England. Arrangements have just been confirmed:
