“I only got the chance to know Marta for a very brief time, but I will absolutely never forget her. She was extremely intelligent, warm, strong, kind, fiery, very funny, and absolutely radiating life all the way through her final days in this world. Getting the chance to give her a little food (that, "Mmmmm, tastes Italian!) while playing "Con te Partirò" for her on my cellphone, the sun streaming in through the window, and then sharing stories with her about our lives, is a burning-bright memory for me. I have faith that she is now living joyfully and passionately again with her loved ones who preceded her into the great Hereafter. To her son, Michael: I was telling the truth when I told you that she was my favorite patient. My husband and friends also know what an incredible person Marta was and is, because she was still giving love, wisdom, and joy into her final days here that was valuable to those even beyond the people who knew her personally. Thank you for the chance to know your amazing mother. I wish I had gotten to do more, but I did my best for that short time to honor her and your family in some small way by really, truly caring for her the way she deserved. That beautiful time and that opportunity meant far more to me than I can say here. From our hearts, my husband and I send you all our love and respect. May God bless you all.”
