He is survived by: his children, Michael Downey (Jeanne) of Benkelman, NE, Michaela Hunt (A. D.) of Anselmo, NE, Patricia Rivera (John) of North Platte, NE, John Downey of Broken Bow, NE, Robert Downey (Brenda) of Lincoln, NE and Elizabeth Minnick (Joe) of Washington, UT; his daughter-in-law Donna Downey (Pat) of Merna, NE; his siblings, Ella Mae Mapel of Reno, NV, Mike Downey (Sheila) of Dunning, NE and Burton; and his sister-in-law Carol Willis of Callaway, NE. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Anselm's Catholic Church – Rectory and St. Andrew (Dale) Catholic Cemetery.
