He is survived by: his wife Lemille Carter; his children, Keith Carter, James Carter Jr. (Zina), Charissa Carter (Jamello Lewis) and Michelle Blevins (Leonard); his stepson Richard Moore Jr. (Moira); his grandchildren, Nicole Johnson (Craig), Andre Smith, Maisha Moore, Natalye Smith-Hines, Paris Blevins (Amber), Gregory Moore Jr., Kasey Carter (Keshlyn), Mikalyn Blevins, Kasja Moore and Kyle Carter; his sibling's children, Edna Lyons (John) and Steven Carter (Tangerine); his great grandchildren, Gregory Mason, Tyler Mason, Zinora Sheffield, Aniyah Tribble, Aria Moore, Uriyah Blevins and Jahnu Carter; and his siblings-in-law, James Rankin, Julia Rankin, Shirley Olivier and Faye Rankin. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
