She was predeceased by: her parents, Michael Zales and Margaret Zales; and her husband Richard Thompson. She is survived by: her daughter Michelle Sphonix-Rust of San Diego; her stepdaughters, Heather Wilson of San Francisco, Hillary Young of Denver and Benji; her pets, Franky, Pepper and Penny; her son-in-law Enguerran; and her brother Michael "Jack" Zales.

At 16, while a high school student at St. Augustine Academy in Cleveland, she entered the Catholic order of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
