She was predeceased by: her parents, Harlan Rhode and Elaine Rhode. She is survived by: her husband John Hinkle; and her siblings, Randall Preston (Zelta) and Deanna Bargmann. She is also survived by ten nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the University of Nebraska Foundation to support the College of Education.
