She was predeceased by: her parents, Harriet Hanft and Rod E. Hanft; her stepmother Joy Sue Smith Hanft; and her brothers, Kirk Hanft and Michael Brooks.
She is survived by: her sons, Rodney James Melton (Jozsef Adams) and Shane Michael Vassie (Autumn Vassie); her sister Rachel Mokszycki; and her grandchildren, Troy Melton, Maximus Melton and Harley Jade Keen.
In lieu of flowers or a service, the family requests donations in Karen's memory to Central City Concern in Portland, Oregon (centralcityconcern.org/donate (http://centralcityconcern.org)), a nonprofit where her son Rodney works that provides housing, health care, addiction recovery, mental health support, and employment services to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
